A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WOODTURNER ARTIST
With my background in Naval Architecture and store fixture display design I’ve learned the meaning of proportions as well as the pleasing affect of a fair simple curve.
I believe this is evident in all my wood turnings.
My education started at the Institute of Design & Construction studying strength of materials, art and rendering classes as well as Architecture.
My first real job was working for M. Rosenblatt & Son, Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
During a 5 year period I held the position of Design Draftsman, in this position I learned the proper way to design foundations to hold up to the rigorous requirements of ships at sea. This background payed off big time when I started designing store fixtures. Display fixtures have to hold up to customer abuse as well as the heavy loads of merchandise. My marine background really gave me a great understanding of structural integrity.
During the late 80s and early 90s my miniatures won Gold and 1st place awards in the Tri-state area awarded by L.I.H.M.C.S
IN 2000/2001 my store designs and fabrication won the National NASFM Design award for Best Retail Store nationally, also voted by Society of Registered Architects.
The last 3 years I entered my Woodcarvings, Bowls & Kayaks at the Long Island Woodworking Show. That was 3 different categories and I took a 1st & 2nd place in all 3.
I always strive for proper balance of proportions and the highest quality finish. Hold one of my pieces and you can tell the attention I put into the finish. Sometimes the finishing process takes longer than the turning of the piece.
I feel you will be totally satisfied with my turning once you hold it in your hands. That is the real magic to my craft.
