 Join Long Island ceramic artist Jessamyn Go for an 8-week hands-on clay workshop designed for adults and advanced teens ages 13+. Whether you’re new to ceramics or looking to build on your skills, this course offers a supportive studio environment with demonstrations, guided instruction, and plenty of time to work independently.

With a class size limited to 12 participants, students receive individualized attention and one-on-one instruction throughout the course.

Each two-hour session combines demonstrations with guided studio time. Over eight weeks, students will create four finished ceramic projects, with each project developed over two sessions. The curriculum introduces fundamental hand-building techniques while encouraging students to develop their own ideas and approach to form and surface.

8-Week Curriculum

Project 1 — Pinching: Ornamental Hanger 9/13, 9/20,

  • Week 1: Build and shape the ceramic forms using the pinch technique

  • Week 2: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 2 — Coiling: Decorative Coiled Bowl 10/4, 11/1, 

  • Week 3: Build a bowl using a variety of coiling techniques

  • Week 4: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 3 — Slab Construction: Lighting Sculpture  11/8, 11/15,

  • Week 5: Construct a sculptural form using slabs and attachments

  • Week 6: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 4 — Attachments: Candlestick Holders 11/22, 11/29

  • Week 7: Build and assemble forms using attachments and hand-building techniques

  • Week 8: Glazing, finishing, and final studio work

Students will learn essential hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, slab construction, and attaching. The course also introduces surface decoration, glazing, and basic considerations for creating work that can be successfully fired.

Class Format

  • Two-hour weekly sessions

  • Materials, tools, and kiln firings included

All materials, tools, and kiln firings are included in the workshop fee. Size limitations will apply to finished work to ensure appropriate use of studio resources.

Whether you are completely new to clay or already have some ceramic experience, this workshop provides a fun, hands-on introduction to working with clay while building practical skills and confidence in the studio.
