This 8-week clay workshop marks Gallery North’s exciting introduction into ceramics as a studio offering! Taught by Long Island ceramic artist Jessamyn Go, this course is designed for adults and advanced teens (ages 13+) who are curious about clay or serious about developing their artistic skills.

With class size limited to 12 participants, students benefit from individualized attention and one-on-one instruction in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Each two-hour session includes live demonstrations and guided studio time. Over the 8 weeks, students will complete four elevated ceramic projects—each completed over two weeks—with a focus on both technique and personal expression. Sample projects include:

  • Project 1- Lidded Pinch Pot; Explore advanced pinch pot construction with lid
    fitting. (1/18 & 1/25)

  • Project 2-Coiled Orchid Planter; Build a functional planter using coiling methods. (2/1 & 2/8)

  • Project 3- Slab Block Vase; Design and construct an elegant block-style vase from
    custom templates. (3/1 & 3/8)

  • Project 4- Abstract Cylindrical Lighting Sculpture; Create a sculptural lantern with cutouts and texture. (3/15 & 3/22)

Students will learn essential hand-building methods such as pinching, coiling, slab construction, and attaching, along with decorative surface and glazing techniques.

Class Format:

  • Week 1 of each project: Hand-building with clay

  • Week 2: Glazing and finishing

All materials, tools, and kiln firings are included in the fee, making this an accessible way to explore clay without hidden costs. Please note: due to the small size of our kiln, there will be size limitations on completed works to ensure thoughtful use of studio resources.

Whether you’re new to ceramics or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop offers a fun, creative, and skill-building introduction to the world of clay.
