Fall Ceramics for Children

Kids Clay Workshop:

Ages 8–12

Meeting: 9/13, 9/20, 10/4, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 11/29

Workshop Fee: $450 of $125 for one project (two Sundays)

Join Long Island ceramic artist Jessamyn Go for an 8-week clay workshop created especially for young artists ages 8–12. This hands-on program introduces children to the basics of working with clay through fun, age-appropriate projects and guided studio instruction.

Each two-hour class includes demonstrations, hands-on making, and individual guidance. Over eight weeks, students will complete four ceramic projects while learning fundamental hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, slab construction, and adding attachments. Students will also learn about texture, surface decoration, and glazing.

8-Week Curriculum

Project 1 — Pinch Pots: Three Nesting Bowls 9/13, 9/20,

• Week 1: Pinch and shape three small bowls

• Week 2: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 2 — Coiling: Decorative Plate 10/4, 11/1

• Week 3: Build a plate using a variety of coil techniques

• Week 4: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 3 — Slab Construction: Textural Sculpture 11/8, 11/15,

• Week 5: Build a form using slabs and create texture through impressions and surface marks

• Week 6: Surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

Project 4 — Wind Chimes 11/22, 11/29

• Week 7: Create and assemble ceramic pieces for a wind chime

• Week 8: Glazing, finishing, and final assembly

Class Format

• Two-hour weekly sessions

• Materials, tools, and kiln firings included

The $450 workshop fee includes all materials, tools, and kiln firings. Size limitations will apply to finished work to ensure pieces can be safely and successfully fired.
