Collection: CeramicsByKev

Hello, I’m Kevin!

I am a potter and and illustrator based in Huntington, NY. I developed an interest in clay when I took my first ceramics class at my local art league. I took classes throughout my childhood and used clay a bit in high school, but sort of tapered off until I got back into it in college. I studied Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design- SCAD for short. I completed a BFA in Illustration, and along the way took a few ceramics classes and before I knew it was doing a minor in Ceramic Arts.

I made the first two goobers as test pieces. I was experimenting with some wild local clays that were crumbly and hard to form into anything complex. I shaped a piece of one clay into a small simple bird and the other into a little hippo figure. I think in the back of my mind the hippo was roughly based on an artifact I had recently seen a photo of- a small, ornately decorated blue hippopotamus made of Egyptian faience. The bird just came to me. I was originally thinking of the figures as little shelf spirit guys, which in a way is what goobers still are. I consider these to be sort of “proto-goobers”, and I made a number of similar figures out of various clays while testing different materials throughout my time at SCAD. The first official goobers-proper debuted at my first ever craft fair in December of 2019.

All goobers are three inches tall.
