Local Color 1 — Photography and Digital Media
Opening Reception – Friday June 7th, 5-7pm – Sponsored by Cappy’s Carpets of Port Jefferson
A two-part exhibition with an impressive array of regional talent, Gallery North’s Local Color is a Long Island summer staple featuring current work by contemporary Long Island artists. Local Color I, running from June 7th—June 28th will consist of photography and digital media, while Local Color II, following on July 26th—August 16th will highlight painting and works on paper. Through these distinct and compelling media, Local Color explores the themes and textures of Long Island in a celebration of its people and places.
Together, these multimedia artists showcase the natural beauty of Long Island’s sea and skyscapes, woods, and fields, as well as the bustle and interplay of its roads and residents. Local Color highlights the unique perspectives that photography and painting can offer as each artist investigates a point of view and the living environment.
The artists featured in Local Color I include Jeff Foster, Ray Germann, Erika Kuciw, Jan La Roche, Stuart McCallum, Bob Retnauer, Peter Scheer, Neil Scholl, Lynn Spinnato, Phil Webster, Marlene Weinstein, and Patty Yantz, as well as two of the student recipients of our Virginia Fuller Memorial Prize, Alexandra Freytag, and Christopher Setter.
Local Color I and Local Color II will have separate opening receptions on June 7th and July 26th respectively. You can hear Jeff Foster, Ray Germann, Erika Kuciw, Peter Scheer, and Phil Webster speak about their Photography and Digital Media work on June 9th from 3-5pm as part of our ArTalk@GalleryNorth series.
