Children's Workshops |

Children's workshops at Gallery North are offered throughout the month of August. Each class offers the opportunity to learn about the creative process through hands-on activities and is led by a professional artist. Class size is small allowing each child the individual attention they deserve. To ensure your choice of classes, please register early. PRINTS FROM NATURE |

|
Bright orange oranges, red apples, and PINK potatoes? This class introduces young children to printmaking in a fun way. Students will make colorful prints of leaves, fruits and vegetables using tempera paint on paper. The resulting prints will be laminated and taken home to use as picnic place mats, or can be framed as art. Students should bring a smock; Parents should join in the fun. |

YOGA RELAXATION BEFORE "AUTOMATIC DRAWING" |

A one day class, “Automatic Drawing” is a form of yoga for artists. We will center ourselves with breathing techniques. Then we will continue to draw in a relaxed state. |

A ZOO OF PRINTS |

Lions, tigers, zebras: We love animals at the zoo! We will use animal photos to copy from, and make prints by drawing on rectangles of Styrofoam, called “plates” in printmaking; the plates will be inked with a roller and printed on paper. We will share the prints we make, and everyone gets to take home a zoo of prints. Students should bring a smock. Parents are invited, but not required to attend. |

CALLIGRAPHY: The Art of Beautiful Writing |

Learn to create decorative letters for fun and profit! This short class will introduce students to the art of calligraphy with a broad felt-tipped pen. Students will experience the joy of creating beautiful lettering using the alphabet that they already know how write. We will concentrate on writing your name and decorating it with colorful markers, glitter, and fold and silver inks. We will look at examples of decorated letters from the Middle Ages to inspire us. |

Working with food-colored flour-dough, we will create small animals that will dry naturally. Roll the dough, and you have a snake. Coil the snake, and you have a snail. Flatten the dough with a rolling pin, use a cookie cutter duck shape and you have duck. Make a ball, attach head, feet, and tail and you have a …dog, cat, turtle, or whatever your imagination desires. Parents should join in the fun. |

RUBBER STAMP FUN |

Make your own rubber stamp pictures, greeting cards, envelopes, and bookmarks. We will use decorative rubber stamps as well as making our own “eraser stamps”. Learn to make your own designs with animal images, letters, and decorative borders. We will put finishing touches on cards with gold and silver ink, and colorful ribbons. Parents are invited, but not required to attend. |

BATIKING |

|
A two day class. Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique used on textile. Batik is found in several countries in the Far East and is considered an art form in Indonesia. For this two day workshop, students will design and draw a creative design onto silk fabric with a simple and safe water soluble wax resist. We will then use color mixing and painting techniques to enhance our fabrics with vibrant colors and patterns using a large selection of silk dyes. Both sessions are necessary for a well-rounded experience. This special process does not include hot wax and is safe and appropriate for children. |
